A Travellerspoint blog

Less Than Two Weeks

sunny 27 °C

Hi Everyone.

Enough testing of this blog-site. I think it is fine and dandy and will suit our purposes well.

We are now less than two weeks away from our departure date. It has been a long time waiting for us, but recently time seems to be moving at a pace that is two to three times quicker than usual. (Probably has something to do with the thousands of jobs that have to get done at the same time we try to live life and be competent at our jobs.) We are excited and nervous at the same time. What we will see and do in the next half year will likely not be exactly as we plan. Some of the surprises will be fantastic, some maybe not so fantastic, but all will be an adventure. We hope that as you read along with this blog, you can travel with us in mind, ask questions that we can answer, make comments on the blog and keep us in your thoughts. We will miss all of you, but will be coming home sooner than anyone can believe.

Remember to make comments if you have any. It is a way for us to know if anyone is reading and if it is worthwhile continuing the blog. If you click the 'subscribe' button on the main page and enter an email address, then this blog will inform you when any of us makes an update.

We'll probably put another entry or two in before we leave, but after that the entries will come when we can find internet access. Hopefully that will be often.

BFN :)

Love the start of your blog! Think the name "gcap" is very cute and I was able to figure it out first thing this morning! Wish you all a wonderful adventure and I am so looking forward to reading all about it.

Dear Allore Family: We are very excited (and of course, envious) as you near your take off date!!
I am curious to see how the world's smartest/best packer, Gwen Allore, actually packs for this 7 month journey. You know I would offer to help, but I would just be adding things, not lightening the luggage.
Do they have mosquitoes in Aussie land? I know they have BIG bats that are far larger than good old Bobbie of Huron Lake ...So, what do you wear to repel these giant beasts? Our neighbour is from Australia...shall I ask?
OK, let me know if I can cook you dinner before you leave....as you watch the cupboard and fridge supplies dwindle...
Love Lisa and the girls!!

Well my beloved Allores, I think of you daily as the deadline pressure mounts, and good byes need to be said. I love the line in "Hope Floats," "...beginnings & endings are hard, but the parts in th middle are pretty good..."

I'm glad you're not moving to the southern hemisphere, because this way I know you are all coming back, and I can adventure vicariously for months with you. Happy marking, happy end of year tests, and happy packing!!!

The next best thing to traveling is communicating with people who are! Of course this blog will be worthwhile - we are really looking forward to this vicarious trip - have a great adventure.

Be careful crossing the road while you are there. You are trained to look one way, but the cars will be coming from the other direction! It seems silly, but it takes a bit to get used to it!!

If you find yourself stuck somewhere, make sure you let me know. I may be able to dig up some local contacts for you. I even know a PhD who lives in a tree house!!!!

Have a great adventure!!

Have a fabulous time on your adventure! This will be an experience of a life-time!! We look forward to reading all about it!

Be safe!
